THE INSTITUTE OF CHILI WINS 2013 TWISTED TACO THROWDOWN TOP PRIZE

CHILI QUEENS WILL FEATURE CHAMPIONSHIP TACOS AL PASTOR THIS WEEK AT ALAMO STREET EAT BAR

The Institute of Chili Food truck wins the 2013 Grand Championship for their tacos al pastor at this years Twisted Taco Throwdown. The event is held each year at the VFW Post 76 in San Antonio, TX.
Celebrity judges Nina Duran, Cassandra Lazenby, Natalie Tejeda and more, judged entries from 17 taco trucks. The competition draws thousands of people each year, with a portion of the proceeds benefitting the VFW Post 76 Veteran Relief Fund.
“We gave it our all and we came to win,” owner Ana Fernandez said. “We were absolutely thrilled! We had lots of fun and it’s for a great cause.”
The Institute of Chili is based at the Alamo Street Eat Bar, 609 South Alamo Street. Menu options include Tex-Mex selections, wood-fired BBQ meats daily and chili-based dishes such as the Roosevelt which features two pork tamales and a fried egg over a Frito pie.
The Institute of Chili will feature their award-winning tacos al pastor this week.
“Our tacos al pastor are phenomenal,” Fernandez said. “We cook the pork using our own top-secret recipe and technique. Very traditional, but with a chili queens twist.”
Hours are Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays 5:00 pm to 12 a.m. and Fridays and Saturdays, 5:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.
